BEEPIZ: THE LONE WORKER SOLUTION IN HAZARDOUS AREAS
In explosive atmospheres (hazardous areas), the equipment used must be ATEX certified. The Beepiz lone worker solution is compatible with many ATEX smartphones.
What are the ATEX standards?
Two standards concerning explosive atmospheres have came into effect on July 1st 2003, imposed by the European Union, known as the ATEX standards. Firstly, ATEX norms consist in the identification and limitation of hazardous areas, and they have been followed by many other standards and decrees. The equipment used must be ATEX certified. In the interest of protection, the employer is thus required to identify the areas in which there is a risk of explosion and to take the necessary measures to prevent the risks.
What are hazardous areas?
An hazardous area (ATEX) is a place that has a higher than average risk of explosion. The explosion risk can come from gas, mist or steam.
ATEX zoning targets measure and define risks and adapt products you may use according to hazardous areas. The employer must indicate which areas are potentially explosive on a site (gas, steam or dust).
What is the hazardous areas classification?
According to standard 1999/92/CE and to article R.4227-50 of the French Labour Code, there are three levels of ATEX zones for each distinction realized between zones with gas and steam and zones with the presence of dust :
Gas and steam
Zone 0
An area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is present continuously or for a long time.
Zone 1
An area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation.
Zone 2
An area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is not likely to occur in normal operation and, if it occurs, will only exist for a short time.
Dust
Zone 20
An area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is present continuously or for a long time.
Zone 21
An area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation.
Zone 22
An area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is not likely to occur in normal operation and, if it occurs, will only exist for a short time.
Is Beepiz compatible with hazardous areas?
We sell ATEX standardized smartphones, more precisely the Smart-Ex® 02 and Ex-Handy10 model. These cell phones meet the standards imposed by the ATEX directives for zones 2 and 22 (explosive atmosphere not likely to occur in normal operation). However, there is a multitude of other ATEX cellphones compatible with our Beepiz lone worker app!
Indoor positioning in hazardous areas!
With Beepiz, you can also locate indoors with beacons (bluetooth), adapted to hazardous areas. We sell ATEX beacons that allow you to know the precise position of the users inside your buildings in case of an alert! With ATEX beacons, protect your lone workers insinde and outside.
